Golf Nuts,
Fellow Golf Nut Bob “Captain Hook” Scavetta (#1696) sent me this short but interesting video about Seth Raynor, a course architect few golfers have even heard about and I wanted to share it with you. Raynor may not be well-known but he does have one helluva resume.

I was fortunate to play Camargo Club, one of Raynor’s best designs, as a guest of a member back in the early 2000s while visiting Cincinnati. Here’s a photo I took from their clubhouse veranda. Incredible place…
I was so impressed with the course that I returned a few years later to play in the US Amateur Qualifier. At my age at the time, there was no logical reason to be playing in the qualifier, but what the hell…it was Camargo.
The best part of the day was my pairing. It included a virtually unknown recent college graduate - Jeff Overton. He shot 71 that day, missing qualifying for the Amateur by a couple of shots, but we had a great time playing together and talking golf.
A few years later, I saw him again, this time on TV. He had made it to the Tour. And then, in 2011, he made the Ryder Cup team. (This link also has an incredible amount of info about golf history. Just click “Golf Compendium” arrow at the top-left of the page. Check it out.)
You might remember this iconic video of Overton at the Ryder Cup (click image for video)…
You never know who you’re going to meet on the golf course.
