The following piece PGA Tournaments Put Me to Sleep, is from the March 1969 issue of Golf Digest by editor Dick Aultman.
It looks like this has been an issue for decades. Rather than rant (again) on the subject, I’ll let the column speak for itself except to say, fifty-five years and we golf fans are still unhappy with the product? Hmmm…interesting.
I found this kind of fun too; the ad on the outside back page of the magazine. Anyone ever own a set of these? And look at that 1970 Titleist ball. It’s safe to say that today’s tour players wouldn’t be hitting 300-yard drives with that ball or the Ram 3-D ball above. At least not with that Titleist persimmon driver!
Ya gotta love the good ol’ days when golf was, well…golf. And not bazooka ball.
And finally, this is very cool. It’s a listing in the Golf Digest 1970 Annual edition of the club champions in 1970 from many of the clubs across the country. Maybe you know one or two of them, or better yet, you are one of them. (You might need your “readers” to be able to read the names.)…
I hope you enjoyed this edition of Looking Back.
